Our Artists Name

Our group member Emily suggested the name 'Kyla' after one of our favourite house music producers Kygo. We wanted a name that was unique and one word so it would be recognisable and become iconic, and we all agreed Kyla fitted this criteria  Like artists Cher and Madonna, who have unusual names.

This is the font we used on our mood board and could possibly be a logo for our artist. We used this font because it features the palm leafs inside which is iconography for our genre.

Our Final Song

For our final song we have chosen Felix Jaehn's "I Do". We chose this song as we all really like the song and its very unknown which means we wont be influenced by a previously existing artist.

Our Song Choices

My group and I had a few other song choices before deciding on I Do by Felix Jaehn. Other options where Come and Get It by Selena Gomez, Here For You by Gorgon City ft. Laura Welsh and Comeback by Ella Eyre.

As a group we really liked Comback and thought it would be fun to make a music for. We liked the upbeat music and the sassiness of the lyrics, which we thought would be fun to perform. However after looking at the video we were struggling to think of different idea. As the song is very narrative of a break up, which is her video is about. Another reason we didn't pick this song is that we prefer house genre music, than pop.

We all liked the song Come and Get It, it had the fast beat of a song we were looking for. It's a song that makes you want to dance however its not a dance genre song, which at this point is what were looking for. When looking at the existing music video the colour scheme wasn't something that inspired us as the colours were very rich and dark. Which does match the song however it doesn't fit my groups ultimate vision of faded colours.

Another song we looked at Here For You by Gorgon City, was the genre and my group and I wanted to do our music video for. It was one of our two final choices because we all previously knew and liked the song, but it wasn't as well known by a lot of other people. Therefore the original video wouldn't be recognisable.

The last song in our options is I Do by Felix Jaehn. The song was to to the rest of the group as I suggested it from a compilation album, this means none of us knew of a music video so we new ideas and could be very imaginative. In fact there isn't a music video at all. It also fitted the exact genre we wanted to do , tropical house, a quite new genre that a lot of people aren't familiar with.

Digipak Analysis Video

I filmed a video of my analysis for Lana Del Rey's Honeymoon deluxe edition and Kings of Leon's Only By The Night promotional poster.

Digipak Posters

These posters by Kings of Leon and Nirvana are examples of the poster I need to create for the promotion of my artists album. I analysed the Kings of Leon poster in a video, I have posted. I found it helpful to analyse the poster as it showed me what features I needed to include in my own. These are things such as - artist name
                              - album name
                              - released singles
                              - release date

Examples Of Tropical House Songs

Tropical House Genre

Tropical House is a sub-genre house and deep house music which first came to light in 2010

"it possesses typical house music characteristics, including synthesiser instrumentation, and a 4/4 kick drum pattern. Tropical house differentiates itself from deep house, which can often have a very dark sound, whereas tropical house can be described as having a more uplifting, and relaxing sound.[8] The tempo of tropical house songs is a little slower than deep house. Tropical house does not use the pumping compression effect of "big room" electro house. It usually includes some tropical instruments such as steel drums or marimba"

2015 thus far has been a very good year for the tropical house genre, there have been songs which which have gone into the main stream charts; and their artists have became more well known. Examples of these are Kygo, Robin Schulz and Felix Jaehn. Schulz has had #1's worldwide with the songs Waves and Prayer in the C. Many Tropical house artists remix other artists songs, such as Felix Jaehn who remixed OMI's Cheerleader to worldwide success as a #1 single in many many countries.

Due to the success of the tropical house songs other mainstream artists have started to be influenced by them, such as Justin Bieber and his song What Do You Mean. This shows that tropical house is a progressing genre.
